KNIGHT AND McKILLEN WIN TERETONGA ENDURO
Andy Knight of Christchurch and Shane McKillen of Auckland won the final round of the 2008 Asko Appliances South Island Endurance Series at Teretonga Park in Invercargill today.
The duo led all the way in the 3-Hour race, eventually crossing the line in their VnC Cocktails Porsche GT3 997 four laps clear of the opposition. Michael Morton and Jody Vincent were second in their Triple XXX Motorsport Porsche GT3 while Tony Williams and Andrew Higgins were third in another Porsche. The winners in the previous two years, Angus McFarlane and Michael Bushell, were forced out when a wheel came off their car during qualifying this morning.
Racing continues at the circuit tomorrow when the second round of the new ENZED V8 Utes powered by Allied Petroleum Series takes centrestage. In qualifying today the top six competitors were within one second of each other, pointing towards some close racing tomorrow. Caine Lobb (Ginger Ninja) of Christchurch took pole position in his Holden ahead of fellow Holden driver Mack Peach (Bomba). Simon Beirne (Jnr Burner) of Christchurch was the fastest Ford man in third, just .26 of a second off pole position. The top six was rounded out by Miles Worsley, Graham Beirne and series leader Mathew Lockwood.
Kumho Sport Saloon championship leader Neville Stowell of Timaru was the fastest qualifier in that category from fellow South Canterbury competitors John Hepburn, Ron Shelton and Mike Small. Meanwhile Australian visitor Mathew Lovell was the fastest qualifier in the Firestone Super Six Saloons presented by D N Brown Engineering. Blair Sutherland was second ahead of Russell Keeler and Peter Hughes while championship leader Nathan Blomquist was fifth.
Also on the programme tomorrow are the Kumho Pre 65 Saloons and the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series races.
A full day of racing presented by Fulton Hogan commences at 10.00am including three races for the ENZED V8 Utes powered by Allied Petroleum. Admission is $15 while children under 14 are free.
